What we do

Accounting for businesses

Used as the basis for corporation tax compliance and planning, all companies are required to prepare and file a set of statutory accounts with Companies House for each financial year. The accounts can, of course, be in a form which gives limited disclosure.

These accounts are imperative; it is vital that they are prepared in accordance with the prevailing law and practice.

SLJ Accountants can assist with all aspects of statutory accounts preparation and any associated issues. We aim to complete our work with as little disruption as possible for the company’s management and its stakeholders.

The open dialogue we maintain with our clients enables us to deal with one off transactions correctly and ensures our clients fully understand the financial statements that we prepare, which they will ultimately sign. Though we like to maintain this open dialogue, we always strive to work in a way which does not distract our clients from their day-to-day business activity.

SLJ Accountants has a trusted support network that can provide specialist expertise in areas including statutory accounts audits, data entry, bookkeeping and direct VAT compliance.

Services for accountants

SLJ Accountants works with a number of fellow professionals, acting as their ‘hard tax’ department.

As a result, these clients are able to offer a wider range of services to their own clients, safe in the knowledge that they have us supporting them with the more complicated tax issues. We support accountancy and law practices in this way as well as some independent IFAs.

We work with such clients in whatever way suits them best. This may be taking more of a back-seat position, working together in partnership, or in certain cases – where it is felt by all parties to be the most efficient approach – we can take the lead on standalone assignments. In the latter circumstances, we always keep our clients fully updated on everything we are doing for their clients.

SLJ Accountants does not work in competition with our fellow professional clients; our stated aim is to enhance our clients’ service offering to their clients. This collaborative approach has worked extremely well over the years for a large variety of assignments.
